New, Improved Orion Flight Simulator Gets Workout At STEP 5 Conference

October 15, 2004 (Riverside, Ca.)

TSM’s Orion CRV flight simulator, recently overhauled with new hydraulics, new controls and a sleeker new look, debuted at the STEP 5 Conference held at the Riverside Convention Center October 13th and 14th.

Founded by Riverside Congressman. Ken Calvert, the two-day conference featured talks by SETI researcher Dr. Jill Tartar, actor Robert Davi and First Teenager in Space hopeful Justin Houchin and the Congressman himself. Over 2,000 Inland Empire school students were bused in for the event sponsored by General Atomics, SBC, Lockheed Martin and others.

Dozens of children from public, private and even home schools climbed aboard the Orion to perform pitch, yaw and roll maneuvers before their teachers and classmates. The most popular static exhibit at last years’ STEP 4 Conference became this years’ most popular thrill ride!

Last years’ STEP Conference featured the announcement of the First Teenager in Space project. This year, Justin Houchin talked about his amazing last year of experiences. Hundreds of students were shown a video of Justin’s jet flight that was broadcast in the Los Angeles area in March 2004 on KNBC TV. In February 2004, Justin at age 17 became the youngest ever to fly a military jet at the prestigious National Test pilot School in Mojave Ca.
